NATHAN DENISON, second son of Isaac and Electra Denison, married Sila Stoddard, April 12, 1830. She was born in Sutton, Vt., January 5, 1807. He settled on a farm south of his father's, where he lived eleven years. In September, 1835, he was baptized by Rev. Jonathan Woodman and united with the Baptist Church at East Burke, Vt. Soon after this he felt called to preach the gospel and thinking his education not equal to such a calling, he disposed of his farm and with his little family removed to the town of Derby and entered the Derby Seminary, then in its infancy (1841). While studying he preached at East Charleston and Salem. He was ordained at Derby, February 24, 1842. He read the hymn beginning, "Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow thee." During the first year of his pastorate in Derby he baptized twenty-two persons-one of whom became a minister. From Derby he went to Hardwick, from there to Skaneateles, N. Y., from which place he removed to Mendota, IL, October, 1854, where he died November 31, 1854.
